    Diary of a Chic Mommy: {Dressing Kids on a Budget}

    May 19, 2011 / Fashion, Headline, Kids Fashion

    Thank you Old Navy for sponsoring my post today about baby and toddler styles. Old Navy is giving you 30% off everything in their baby and toddler summer collection, plus get an additional 15% off in-store.

    As a mom of two, it’s important for me to dress my kids on a budget. Kids are constantly growing in and out of their clothes almost all the time.  With that being said as much as I love for my kids to dress stylish and keep up on the latest trends, I also have to be realistic and stay within my budget doing so. The one thing I love is that their schools wear uniforms during the week that consists of polo shirts (any brand) and solid color bottoms (of course no outrageous colors). I think it’s great that more schools are becoming more uniformed, because of course there are kids that are less fortunate than others and can’t afford the name brands that some of the other kids are wearing. The uniforms allow each child to appear the same.

    I’m sure as moms we all know it’s a never-ending job to keep our kids clothes in tact. I have a son who is 11 and he is at that age where he is into trends. That’s fine, but the only problem is that he wants new tennis shoes all the time, but can never seem to keep any of them in good shape. So this is a reason why I’m always comparing prices and looking for deals that fit into our budget. It is definitely a never-ending job trying to keep their clothes in tact. And of course not to mention keeping up on everyday needs like underwear, t-shirts, socks, accessories and the list can go on and on. So with that being said we have to be sensible and make wise choices when it comes to shopping for our kids. That’s part of the reason why Old Navy is my top pick for affordable fashion for the entire family and particularly for my kids.

      How long is this sale going on for? I have so many babies popping up in my life and I want to get things that are fashionable and affordable as well.

      My biggest tip for purchasing children clothes are buying staple pieces just as you would yourself only a size or two up so that the kid take more time to grow out of it. Also, making sure that the pieces that I’m purchasing can mix and match to create at least 3 options for outfits.

        I totally agree Shante..you are right about buying statement pieces, but for a girl it’s a lot harder because you don’t want things looking to baggy, but some things do work. I also like the idea of mixing and matching to create multiple looks. This is definitely something I do almost all the time for myself and my kids. Thanks for sharing your tips and BTW my middle name is Shaunte’ and I also use it…It’s weird my family calls me my middle name (Shaunte’) and co-workers and friends call me my first name (Tyesha) crazy huh lol
